Recording Video Clinics

We are very happy for patients to ask for a recording of video consultations. Patients often find the information difficult to retain or explain to relatives. A recording makes this much easier.

It works particularly well if there is some team working (multidisciplinary) consulting being done. A nice example of that would be that, if the outcome of a multidisciplinary meeting with a musician, a music educator, a hand therapist and myself, was for the musician to meet the music educator again for another session, then this further session could be recorded. This would have tremendous advantages for both the patient and the tutor. This can also be sent to the hand therapist and to me and we don’t necessarily need to have to watch the whole thing; indeed, we can speed through the video to look for the bits that interest us, and re-watch slowly as needed. Possibly in close up!

We could then see the extent of progress or understand the technique workarounds that have been tried. This would also create a tremendous resource. I do intend to ask patients for very specific consent to use some parts of these as teaching aids if necessary. I will of course only do this if the patient consents specifically. Recording also allows for appropriate governance advantages if chaperoning is required.
