Trigger finger in musicians

Trigger finger is one of the commonest conditions a hand surgeon will see. Typically a few cases a week. I see it very commonly in musicians. With this group, I often liken it to a trumpet valve sticking, probably because I am a trumpet player. The valves need oiling about once a week, and we are often careful to make sure they are oiled before a performance! Here is a video explaining why the two are similar in some respects. At least a sticking valve isn’t painful, even if it is humiliating!
